Service, installation & aftercare

Considered details.
At every stage.

From the first drawing to the way a handle feels in your hand. A clear specification and an agreed scope help your project move forward with confidence.

The right scope

Supply, or supply
with installation.

Tell us how your project is being managed. The proposal should make clear which work is included and who is responsible for each stage.

Supply only

For projects with an appointed installer or building team. Agree who checks the final dimensions, approves the specification, receives the delivery and carries out installation.

Share the installation requirements with your team before the order is finalised.

Supply & installation

Discuss the existing openings, access and finishing requirements with aWindow. Confirm the survey arrangements and the installation scope in the written proposal.

Removal, disposal, making good and decorating should each be agreed rather than assumed.

01 / Before the order

Agree the detail.
Then make it yours.

A product name is only the starting point. Frame sizes, opening direction, glass, finish and hardware all belong in the final specification.

Your specification checklist

Openings & dimensions
Confirm the survey or measurement responsibility, finished opening sizes, sill and threshold details, and any surrounding building work.
Operation & appearance
Check the opening direction, panel layout, glazing bars, colour and handles. Review physical finish samples where available.
Glass & performance
Discuss warmth, noise, sunlight, privacy and safety together. The selected glass and frame must suit the same specification.
Order & programme
Review the written quotation, drawings, exclusions and payment terms. Confirm the programme for your order before arranging dependent trades.

Any building, structural or approval requirements need to be resolved with the appropriate project professionals before manufacture.

02 / Preparing the space

Plan the practicalities.
Protect the finish.

Good preparation is part of a considered installation. Use the agreed scope to coordinate access, the work area and the trades around it.

Before installation day

  • Access & delivery. Discuss parking, unloading, stairs, restricted access and any lifting arrangements needed for large panes or frames.
  • The work area. Agree how floors, furniture and adjacent finishes will be protected, and which items need moving before work begins.
  • Related work. Confirm responsibility for structural openings, electrical connections, plastering, decorating and any other work outside the glazing package.
  • Changes on site. Raise changes to openings or finishes before installation. Agree any effect on the specification, cost or programme in writing.

03 / The finishing details

Understand the operation.
Keep the information.

Make time to review the completed work and the documents that apply to your installation.

At handover

  • Try each opening. Ask for the correct opening, closing and locking sequence, including any restrictors, ventilation positions or powered controls.
  • Review the finish. Walk through the agreed work and record anything that needs attention, together with the next action.
  • Keep the documents. Retain the order reference, final specification, operating and care instructions, and any applicable certificates or guarantee documents.

Guarantee terms depend on the supplied product and the agreed work. Check the written cover, exclusions and maintenance requirements for your order.

Your guarantee documents

Understand your cover.

Frames, sealed glass units, moving hardware and installation can have different guarantee terms. Your written order and guarantee documents set out the cover for each part.

Frames & glass

Product & frame
Manufacturing defects in the supplied product or frame are considered under the product guarantee. Keep the final specification and finish details with your order.
Sealed glass units
Sealed-unit failure is a separate issue from surface condensation. Tell us whether moisture appears between the panes, on the room side or on the outside surface, and include a photograph.

Hardware & installation

Moving hardware
Handles, locks, hinges, rollers and balance mechanisms have their own applicable cover and care requirements. Describe which part is affected and what happens when you operate it.
Installation workmanship
Where aWindow carries out installation, the agreed installation cover addresses our fixing, sealing and weatherproofing work. For supply-only orders, agree workmanship cover with your appointed installer.

Check the duration, start date, exclusions and maintenance requirements for each part in your written order and guarantee documents. Keep these together with your operating instructions.

Contact aWindow with your order reference, a short description and clear photographs so we can identify the product and review the relevant cover.

04 / Looking after your glazing

Care that suits
the product.

Timber coatings, aluminium finishes, glass and moving hardware have different care requirements. Follow the instructions supplied for your particular system.

Everyday care

  • Frames & glass. Use the cleaning method recommended for the finish and glass coating. Check compatibility before applying a cleaner.
  • Tracks & hardware. Follow the care instructions for cleaning accessible tracks, drainage paths and moving parts. Use only the specified lubricant where one is recommended.
  • Timber finishes. Inspect the coating as advised and attend to damage using the recommended maintenance system. Exposure and finish affect the maintenance schedule.
  • Powered products. Keep the operating instructions. Adjustment and servicing should be carried out by an appropriate competent person.

A few practical answers

Before you begin.

Can I start without final drawings?

Yes. Share your ideas, photographs and approximate sizes. We can discuss the next information needed; final measurements and an agreed specification are required before manufacture.

How long will my project take?

The product, specification, site readiness and installation scope all affect timing. Ask for the programme that applies to your quotation, and confirm it before booking related work.

What should my quotation include?

The product specification, quantities, included services, exclusions, price and payment terms should be clear. Ask about survey responsibility, delivery, installation, removal, making good and the applicable guarantee terms.

Who should I contact after installation?

Contact aWindow with your reference and a description of the issue. If the products were supplied only, also identify who installed them so the product and installation responsibilities can be reviewed.
